I Tried to Be Strong Long Enough. Here’s What Happened.
I grew up watching resilience in action.
My father, Leo D. Sullivan, was an Emmy Award-winning animator. My mother, Lynn, held a high-ranking position with the U.S. Department of Defense for over 20 years. They were married for over 63 years. My father passed in 2023, and my mother in 2024. 🥹
Strength was modeled for me before I had words for it. And for a long time, I wore that strength like armor.
But resilience came with a cost I had no way of preparing for.
Laid off more than ten times in 40 years, causing mental and financial strain.
Coming home at age 26 to an empty apartment after only four months of marriage.
Legal and financial battles I never saw coming.
As an empath, navigating narcissistic relationships, both personal and professional, for most of my life. Led me into depression.
Earning my MBA at 50 while working full-time, being active in church ministries, and mentoring.
Remarrying at 53 and leaving everything I knew behind, family, friends, and familiarity, to move 1,500 miles away for a brand new life with my husband.
More seasons of running on empty than I can count.
I smiled when people asked how I was doing. I said, “I’m good, just busy.” And I kept going, because admitting the truth felt like too much work. You know, not wanting to explain ‘everything’ that I was dealing with.
This cost me invitations to events and occasions I would have considered ‘fun’ and relaxing, because I would later be told, “We didn’t contact you because we knew you were busy.” Ugh! That just added an additional layer of mental and emotional fatigue to the equation.
But the truth was: I wasn’t just tired. I was depleted. Multiple kinds of depleted. And no amount of pushing through was going to fix it.
“But God!”
In 1994, during my time in the wilderness, I answered an altar call to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and I won’t turn back.
And through all of it, I discovered something that changed everything:
🌿Joy isn’t found by pushing harder. It’s found the moment you stop and let God meet you in the exhaustion.
Why I Created The 7 Faces of Exhaustion™
For over 35 years, I’ve walked alongside people through thousands of conversations, from women’s ministry and stewardship ministry to corporate environments where troubleshooting became my specialty.
Through it all, I’ve learned that most pain runs deeper than the presenting problem.
What people really want is to be heard, encouraged, and reminded of hope.
The Lord gave me the gift of exhortation, and I’ve embraced it as my ministry and calling.
That calling became Joy God’s Way® and the discovery of The 7 Faces of Exhaustion™, a Scripture-rooted system that helps you finally name what you’re carrying and find your way back to joy, God’s way.
Because here’s what nobody tells you about exhaustion:
🌿You can’t heal what you can’t name.
At Joy God’s Way®, we get to the root.
And most people are treating their tired like one big, blurry problem. They push harder, pray harder, and hope a good night’s sleep will fix everything.
It doesn’t. Because exhaustion isn’t one thing. It’s seven.
The 7 Faces of Exhaustion™
💪 Physical Exhaustion needs rest.
💛 Emotional Exhaustion needs safety.
🧠 Mental Exhaustion needs silence.
🕊️ Spiritual Exhaustion needs reconnection.
👥 Social Exhaustion needs boundaries.
🤲 Compassion Fatigue needs permission to stop carrying everyone.
🎯 Purpose Exhaustion needs meaning.
They’re all real. They’re all valid. And they all require something different.
The reason you’ve been throwing solutions at your tired and nothing sticks?
🌿You might be treating the wrong face.
And here’s the deeper truth: exhaustion layers. Physical tiredness makes you emotionally fragile. Emotional depletion disconnects you from God. Spiritual dryness makes everything feel pointless. And around it goes.
That’s what The 7 Faces of Exhaustion™ is really about. Not just identifying that you’re tired. Identifying where you’re tired. Because that’s where healing begins.
🌿 Healing begins when you name it.
That’s where we start.

A Little About Me!
Earlier, I shared the ‘why’ about me in “I Tried to Be Strong Long Enough. Here’s What Happened,” that gave you a glimpse into the life I was living. And just so you know, I’m still a work in progress, and that’s o.k. I’m leaving room for the Lord to continue to work in and through me. 🙌🏼
Today, I live in beautiful Florida with my husband, where I enjoy my church community, volunteering, walks by the marina, live theatre and music, good books, and spa days. And yes, having grown up in Los Angeles, I still chase authentic Mexican food and other culturally rich cuisines. 😋
I’m also the first to admit I have my “squirrel” moments. 🤣 That’s part of who I am.
Fun Facts!
Oh, and a few things you should know. Growing up in Hollywood, I stepped out of my comfort zone and found myself in some pretty unforgettable places.
I tried out for the Los Angeles Raiderettes, appeared on The Dating Game and Bingo America (I was the winner both times), and spent time as a background artist in Hollywood (Norbit, Evan Almighty, Blades of Glory, Boston Legal, Gilmore Girls, Grey’s Anatomy, E.R., Desperate Housewives, and so much more).
Remember, my dad was an Emmy Award-winning animator, so the Hollywood bug is in my blood. So many stories that I’ll be sharing during our journey together. 🎬
✝️ Proverbs 3:5–6 is my life verse:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
I’d love to hear from you.

I do my best to read and respond to every one. 💖
Because the moment you name it, you stop carrying it alone.
And you were never meant to carry it alone. 💛
Joyfully yours,
A Gentle Note: I’m not a physician, therapist, or licensed counselor. I’m a woman of faith who’s walked through exhaustion and found her way back to joy. What I share here comes from my own journey and the wisdom of Scripture, not medical advice. If you’re experiencing ongoing fatigue or mental health struggles, please reach out to a trusted healthcare provider or emergency agency. What I offer is encouragement from one who’s been there, and a reminder that you’re not alone.💛
